Nemi´s UK team presented an insightful session to over 40 delegates from across the Northern territories of England at last month´s Transport Smart Classes in Manchester.

The session entitled Flexible Fixed Bus Lines: A Hybrid Approach to DRT – Success Factors for Resource Allocation and Demand Aggregation made a deep dive on today´s public transport challenges in rural areas.

The presentation by Nemi highlighted how rural and peri-urban areas, which have significant public transport gaps, can use a semi-flexible DRT approach to significantly improve the mobility of their inhabitants, dissolving transport deserts and connectivity issues in their tracks.  Showcased using case studies from Nemi´s home region of Barcelona.

Over round table discussions we shared insights on Nemi´s semi flex model as a tool to improve operational efficiency aggregating the largest number of people in the fewest number of trips possible with the existing fleet. Highlighted as the decisive factors for the success of a service, the core concepts of the Nemi model simultaneously enhance the user experience, passenger satisfaction and bring high social value.
